Eco One Frequently Asked Questions

The new Eco One system from the US manufacturer, Pacific Sands Inc, is an all natural spa water treatment that is made up of all natural enzymes, minerals and plant extracts that contain no chlorine, bromine or other harsh chemicals. All components of Eco One are biodegradable and environmentally safe.

Eco One will greatly reduce your need for the vast majority of your spa-care chemical regime.

One bottle of Eco One Spa Treatment in conjunction with a shock treatment, such as Spa Lite or Renew, and a very small amount of conventional sanitizer will effectively keep your spa water crystal clear and odour free for 30 days or more.

What is EcoOne?

EcoOne is a blend of coconut, mineral and botanical extracts and natural enzymes.

EcoOne is biodegradable and environmentally safe.

How does EcoOne work?

The secret to EcoOne is the proprietary blend of natural enzymes. Enzymes accelerate natural bioprocesses and keep your spa water sparkling clean without any “chemical soup,” odour, irritation, dry skin, testing or water balancing. EcoOne enzymes are of a food grade type housed in coconut extract.  As the solution breaks down during use, the coconut extract is released and gradually coats the filter cartridge, which improves filtration and makes cleaning much easier. This coconut extract has the added benefit of being an excellent skin softener.

EcoOne contains powerful, natural cleansers that break down oils, body lotions and other unwanted contaminants, dissolving them harmlessly and eliminating the cause of unsightly scum and foam.

EcoOne's pure organic compounds are naturally attracted to contaminants and minerals in the water. Solid contaminants clump together into larger particles that get swept up and caught in the filter where they belong. The natural flocking action keeps your water crystal-clear for a full month.

The natural water softening minerals in EcoOne reduce the surface tension of the water and help prevent scale from forming. The water feels very soft and equipment is protected.

What are the components of EcoOne?

The EcoOne system currently comprises three components which may be used separately or together to naturally sanitze and clarify your spa:

EcoOne Monthly Spa Treatment is the heart of the EcoOne system.  It will keep up to 500 US gallons (1800 litres) of water looking and feeling great for one month with average use. [If you use your spa 3 - 5 days a week for 20 - 30 minutes each day, that is considered to be average use. Heavier use may require more frequent additions of EcoOne Monthly Spa Treatment.]

Eco One Enzyme Active Filter Boost is applied directly to your filters after each monthly filter cleaning to improve filter efficiency.  The enzymes make your filter(s) easier to clean and help to remove damaging minerals and phosphates from your water.

The EcoOne Pre-Filter saves you money, time and hassle by removing or reducing most common water contaminants before they get into your spa. It simply connects to the end of your hose and filters your source water as it enters the tub.

dissolved heavy metals

calcites and lime / scale

Organic contaminants

Plus hundreds of other common water contaminants.

A filter cleaner and a biofilm pipe cleaner may be available soon.

How do I use EcoOne in my tub?

There are three easy steps to starting your tub on Eco One and the process is applicable to both new and old spas:

Step 1 - Preparation

  • If your tub has water in it, use a biofilm eliminator such as Spa Flush to the existing tub water and turn on all jets and pumps for at least 20 minutes.

  • Clean the spa cover with a Spa Cover Cleaner to remove any mildew or bacterial deposits.

  • Drain and refill the tub with clean water. Use the EcoOne Pre-Filter if you know that your water is very hard or contains metal contaminants. Shock with Spa Lite or an alternative non-chlorine shock.

  • Clean the filter(s) thoroughly using a filter cleaner such as FilterBrite. Sprinkle a capsful of EcoOne Enzyme Active Filter Boost uniformly over surface of your filter(s) and replace in the tub.

Step 2 - Treatment

  • Add the entire contents of the Eco One Monthly Spa Treatment with all pumps running and all jets open.

  • Test your water balance and adjust if necessary:

    - the Total Alkalinity should be with the range: 80 - 120 ppm

    - the pH should be within the range: 7.2 – 8.2

  • Add the minimum recommended amount of sanitizer.  You can use either Chlorine or, preferably, Bromine:

    - Chlorine should be within the range: 0.5 – 1 ppm

    - Bromine should be within the range: 1 – 2 ppm

The best way to maintain the sanitizer level is to put Bromine tablets into a floating dispenser with the flow rate turned to minimum.  Check the Bromine level daily for a few days and adjust the flow rate as necessary to maintain the correct level of Bromine.  Thereafter, all you need to do is to keep the dispenser topped up with tablets.

  • Keep your spa covered and at normal operational temperature.

Step 4 – Maintenance

Weekly:

  • Test water sanitizer level and adjust if necessary.

Fortnightly:

  • Shock with Spa Lite or an alternative non-chlorine shock to remove non-filterable organic contaminants.

Monthly:

  • Add another bottle of Eco One Monthly Spa Treatment.

  • Clean your filter and re-treat with EcoOne Enzyme-Plex Filter Boost.

3-Monthly:

  • Drain and refill your spa and repeat the Eco One Step One Purge and Detox process.

Can I use EcoOne in any spa, old or new?

EcoOne can be used in any spa, old or new.  We recommend the use of Spa Flush before you change to Eco One to remove  bio-film and calcium deposits from the plumbing and equipment without the use of harsh or toxic chemicals

Can I use EcoOne in a spa with water that’s already got Chlorine or Bromine in it?

Yes you can, just add a bottle to Eco One spa monthly and reduce your sanitizer level as recommended. However, it is better to flush your pipe work with Spa Flush and drain before you change to Eco One, particularly if you are using chlorine.  By doing this you will ensure that all excessive chemical residuals and bi-products are removed from your tub.

hot tub filtersHow often should I clean the filters when using EcoOne?

When using Eco One Spa Monthly in conjunction with Eco One Enzyme Active Filter Boost your filters will probably only need cleaning monthly. The best way to clean the filters is usually in your dishwasher, on a 50oC wash cycle, with a proprietary filter cleaner poured into the soap dispenser.  If you don’t have a dishwasher then soak the filter(s) in water in a clean bucket with the filter cleaner and rinse off.  Always dry the filters first before reinserting them in the tub.
